Everything I Do
Happy are those who long to be just and good, for they shall be completely satisfied. Happy are the kind and merciful, for they shall be shown mercy. Happy are those whose hearts are pure, for they shall see God. Happy are those who strive for peace - they shall be called the sons of God. Happy are those who are persecuted because they are good, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers - wonderful ! Be happy about it! Be very glad! for a tremendous reward awaits you up in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted too. Matthew 5: 4-12 (TLB)
Jacqueline London, from Trinidad and Tobago, became a Christian in her senior year of high school, and her Christian youth leader encouraged her to share her faith with the student body. She was scared, but she knew she should do it, and she wanted to do it. The day came, and in a trembling voice she told the students of Christ's love. She did not think she had much impact; she was just happy it was over.
But then as she walked home a few days later, she saw a student from her school standing on her porch with an older relative. As she passed, she shouted an insult at her, and they both laughed. It took a while before Jacqueline realized that her words were mocking her testimony of faith. Her knees knocked together, and she continued home meekly, filled with despair. She had never been ridiculed like that.
The next day she read Matthew 5:11. She could not believe her eyes when she saw a description of what she had experienced. Immediately, she was filled with joy. all her sadness left, and she thanked God for being faithful and reminding her that God sees everything we do.
Prayer: Faithful God, help us to share your word, and strengthen us so that we will not fear ridicule, in Jesus' name, amen.
