Different Kind of Miracle
Read Isaiah 41: 1-10
But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, "You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off"; do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41: 8-10 (NRSV)
Years ago a friend of Grace Epperson, from Michigan, was in a car accident. Doctors found she had permanent damage to her spine and was paralyzed from the rib cage down. When Grace went to see her, she assured Grace that her condition was not permanent because God would not leave her like this and would perform a miracle.
As time went on, she did her therapy and coped with her circumstances - waiting for her miracle. Her faith never faltered even as her house was remodeled to accommodate her needs. She had a small store set up on her porch where she sold crafts and other personal items. One day Grace went to visit her at her "store." as she was browsing, Grace saw her stylish high heels lined up in a row - for sale. Grace began to cry; she knew she had accepted her fate.
Though the miracle she had hoped and prayed for hadn't come, Grace wondered whether another miracle of acceptance and faith had occurred. Her faith in God remained strong even in these circumstances. No matter what happens, God does not leave us alone. Sometimes that's the miracle.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your presence in our lives and for the knowledge that we are never alone. Thank you for the miracles you perform and for the assurance of your love and acceptance, in Jesus' name. amen.
