"Who touched me?" Jesus asked.
Everyone denied it, and Peter said, "Master, so many are crowding against you......."
But Jesus told him, "No, it was someone who deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me."
When the woman realized that Jesus knew, she began to tremble and fell to her knee before him and told why she and touched him and that now she was well.
"Daughter," he said to her, "your faith has healed you. Go in peace." Luke 8: 43-48 (TLB)
Maree de Wet is from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She read today's passage of scripture from Luke 8 on the day before her surgery to remove a cancerous lump from her breast. Verse 48 spoke to her personally in several ways. Jesus called the woman "Daughter," which reminded Maree that she was a child of God and that their relational is special. The words, "Your faith has healed you," also stood out to her. From the time she discovered the lump, during the numerous scans and tests, Maree prayed fervently and was aware of God's presence every step of the way. Many friends and family also prayed in faith for her healing. Maree was greatly comforted and touched by everyone's prayers which, as James 5:16 assures us, are powerful and effective. While reading Jesus' words, "Go in peace," Maree was at peace knowing that God was watching over her.
Luke 8:48 allowed her to be confident that whatever the outcome of her surgery, she was in God's hands. Thankfully, the outcome of her operation was better than she hoped. There was no cancer in her lymph nodes or anywhere else in her body. And although she needed radiation therapy, she didn't have to undergo chemotherapy. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Thank you, gracious Lord, that you are always with us in our struggles. Help us to place our trust in your loving care. We pray in Your name. Amen.
