Clean Away the Dust
This is the message God has given us to pass on to you: that God is Light and in him is no darkness at all. So if we say we are his friends, but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying. But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves, and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. [And it is perfectly proper for God to do this for us because Christ died to wash away our sins.] If we claim we have not sinned, we are lying and calling God a liar, for he says we have sinned. 1 John 1:5-10 (TLB)
Glynis M. Belec is from Ontario, Canada. It is amazing and annoying how dust can creep into places you don't expect. Glynis and her husband have been doing some home renovations. She was determined that she would protect all their furniture and made sure she had enough plastic to cover everything.
Glynis didn't think about the insides of the kitchen cupboards, though. She figured the contents of the cupboard were safe since they were behind doors. But renovation dust managed to creep into the crevices. It wasn't until cleanup time that Glynis noticed the thin layer of dust that had covered everything!
As Glynis cleaned out her cupboards, she thought about how it wouldn't hurt to give herself a dusting off too. Sin can creep in just like dust. Prayer and confession are good ways to clean away the dust in her life. It was good to stop and think about how God blesses her every day with mercy and grace. We need to stop and thank God for all the blessings He gives to each of us every day.
Prayer: Gracious God, remind us always of how you created and love us. Help us tidy up areas of our lives that don't bring you glory so we can show our gratitude to you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
