Anxiety and Faith

Read Psalms 9:9-20

All who are oppressed may come to him. He is a refuge for them in their times of trouble. All those who know your mercy, Lord, will count on you for help. For you have never forsaken those who trust in you. Psalm 9:9-10 (TLB)

Derrick Zurn, from Pennsylvania, has dealt with anxiety and depression for a long time. Some days he feels like he can take on anything that comes his way; other days he feels like crawling under a rock. The constant stress of the pandemic has turned up the volume on these emotions. Most days, Derrick feels trapped in a bubble with no way to break out.

The stress of these times wears on him, but it has also taught Derrick about God's power, comfort, and strength in new ways. He has always been a believer, and he talks with God on a regular basis. But this year has been different. Derrick has clung to his faith like never before, praying and praising God for each new day and each new blessing. Even though his anxiety still remains, his relationship with his Creator helps him to feel calmer and gives him the capacity to think about others. Because God is with him, Derrick can set aside the bad feelings and work for good. And he always remembers that it is okay to ask God and others for help.

Prayer: Dear God, give us strength, guidance, and perseverance so we can take on life's challenges and love others like Jesus does, in who's name we pray. Amen.
