Always With Us

Shall I look to the mountains gods for help? No! My help is from Jehovah who made the mountains! And the heavens too! He will never let me stumble, slip or fall. For he is always watching, never sleeping.

Jehovah himself is caring for you! He is your defender. He protects you day and night. He keeps you from all evil, and preserves your life. He keeps his eye upon you as you come and go, and always guards you. Psalm 121: 1-8 (TLB)

He was before all else began and it is his power that holds everything together. Colossians 1:17 (TLB)

Christine DeLong, from Arizona, had taken a road trip to Olympic National Park in Washington State. It was beautiful, and the spring flowers were in bloom. Christine spent a day at the beach, where coastal clouds remained low, and she marveled at the powerful waves, tide pools, and the rocky beach. Then she headed inland to Hoh Rain Forest. As Christine waited in a line of cars to pay the entrance fee, she was surprised when she rolled forward. Through a clearing in the forest, she could see Mt. Olympus, covered in snow and standing majestically over the park.

It was amazing - she'd been in the park for more than 24 hours, yet this was the first time she'd been able to see the mountains. It made Christine think of God - not just because she was so grateful to be surrounded by God's amazing, beautiful world, but also because she realized God is like that mountain. God is always there. We're the ones moving about and, at times, losing sight of God. As clouds roll into our lives, it's easy to forget God is there. But God is steadfast and hasn't gone anywhere. When we remember to look we will find God is with us.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to remember that you are always near and watching over us. Even when we do not see you, we know you are with us. Thank you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
