A Close Relationship

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. Her sister Mary sat on the floor, listening to Jesus as he talked.

But Martha was the jittery type, and was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing.

She came to Jesus and said, "Sir, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.

But the Lord said to her, "Martha, dear friend, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it - and I won't take it away from her!"

Luke 10: 38-42 (TLB)

Renaldo Yosua lives in West Java, Indonesia. Almost every Saturday and Sunday she is busy serving at her church, which is one of the ways she responds to God's call and gives thanks for Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. However, Renaldo is often worn out on the weekends because she also has a job that requires a long daily commute during the week.

When we get tired physically, out enthusiasm to worship may decrease. However, in today's quoted scripture we are reminded that the best part of worship - sitting at the feet of God - can never be taken away from us. Sitting at God's feet not only involves prayer but also building a close personal relationship with God by reading scripture and listening to God's word in worship.

When Renaldo started to strengthen her relationship with God, her service in church began to feel different to her. She became more excited about worship and had a renewed desire to give her best every time. Christianity is more than just a religion; it is a relationship between our heavenly Father and us, God's children.

Prayer: Dear God, draw us into a closer relationship with you so that we may know you better each day. Help us to find renewed commitment in our service to you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
