A Little Tweaking
Read Ephesians 1: 15-23
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him... Ephesians 1:17 (NRSV)
During Connie Cousins exam, her eye doctor said, "I may tweak your prescription a little." Connie hadn't noticed any problem with her eyesight, but she replied, "Well, if a little tweak is going to improve my vision, that's good. Who wouldn't want that?"
Connie began to think about tweaking other areas of her life. She had often tweaked a recipe or a pattern in hopes of making it a little better. What would happen if she tweaked her devotional time? Connie had a regular habit of meeting the Lord in the morning with two devotional booklets she used with her Bible, and she had been satisfied with that. Yet, a more deliberate Bible reading or prayer practice could make a difference. By reading slowly for deeper meaning, or by pausing to listen for God's answers, Connie might experience greater understanding.
Connie has found this greater understanding as well as an increased desire for daily devotions after only moderate changes to her approach. Tweaking might be different for each person. Whatever the change - if we can draw closer to the Lord and hear God more clearly, who wouldn't want that?
I know that reading the Bible out loud through out the year has changed my life in many ways. God will bless every effort you make to get to know Him better.
Prayer: Dear God, give us the desire to learn more about you each day, in Jesus' name, amen.
