Moving with God

I remember the glorious miracles you did in days of long ago. I reach out for you. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain. Come quickly, Lord, and answer me, for my depression deepens; don't turn away from me or I shall die. Let me see your kindness to me in the morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for my prayer is sincere. Save me from my enemies. O Lord, I run to you to hide me.Help me to do your will, for you are my God. Lead me in good paths, for your Spirit is good. Psalm 143: 5-10 (TLB)

Myrna Conrad is from Florida. Myrna and her husband have relocated 21 times, but she still finds change difficult - it tends to bring out all her insecurities and worries. One move was especially hard for her. She loved the place where they were living. They were a part of a great church and would be leaving many friends. Myrna worked at a large center helping women in crisis and felt that her job was also her ministry.

Only later did she realize God's purpose for the move. It enabled her to work in a similar organization that was struggling - where God used her experience to help them grow. Myrna began to look back on other moves and could see that God was at work in each move. Through all her family's relocations, Myrna has learned that she can trust God to lead her in the right direction.

When faced with an opportunity that requires change, we can ask God to guide us. Because God loves us and wants us to lead lives of significance and meaningful service, God will answer our prayers for direction - not only through scripture but also through the wisdom of Christian friends and mentors. God's answer may not always be what we prefer to do, but we can know that following God's direction is always best.

I know for me, I went from being an LPN to working in our church office as an assistant. It was a big change and there have been challenges learning new skills, but God has always provided. It has become the best job I ever had. So if you feel God calling you to make a change, and it doesn't have to be a big one like moving out of state, try your best to trust Him and take a leap of faith. You won't regret it.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to trust that you will show us the ways and places where we can continue to find joy in serving you, in Jesus' name, amen.
