I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed. This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord, and was saved from every trouble. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them. O taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who take refuge in him. Psalm 34: 1-8 (NRSV)
Bless be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 (NRSV)
While seeking medical treatment, Luciria Aguirre Naranjo, from Cali, Colombia, found herself suffering from a severe bout of depression also. After the crisis, Luciria centered her thoughts on her heavenly Father whose care and presence were steadfast during those difficult days. Luciria thanked God for her family who helped her by demonstrating unconditional love and strength, and the people who prayed for her healing and recuperation. Most of all she thanked God for sustaining her when she was incapable of sustaining herself.
Throughout this experience, Luciria was reassured by her capacity to guide and encourage other people in their own times of crisis in her work as a college chaplain. What a privilege it is to serve God! What a great responsibility it is to guide others to Jesus! Motivated by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the good news of salvation, Luciria is humbled to know that in the midst of a crisis we can still be channels of blessing to Others.
Prayer: Great God of Comfort, thank you for shining Your light and guideing us out of the depths of distress. Your love is our sustaining life source. Help us to be channels of blessings to others, in Jesus' name, amen.
